Frequently Asked Automotive FAQs
Our automotive FAQs cover the most common questions we’re asked in the workshop, from WOF time frames and servicing to tyre repairs, diagnostics, courtesy cars and our waiting area.
What automotive services does Automotive Solutions Kauri offer?
We provide a full range of repairs, diagnostics, WOFs and servicing. This is one of our most common automotive FAQs, especially for new customers wanting to know what we do. Our workshop supports drivers across Kauri, Kamo, Hikurangi and wider Whangārei.
Do you have courtesy cars available?
Yes. We have tidy, easy‑to‑drive courtesy cars available while your vehicle is in the workshop. If you need one, just let us know when you book your vehicle in so we can reserve a car for you.
Do the courtesy cars cost anything to use?
No. Our courtesy cars are free to use while your vehicle is in the workshop. We do ask that you top them up with petrol before you return them, as they’ll be filled when you receive the car.
Can I drop my vehicle off early or after hours?
Yes. Early drop‑offs can be arranged, and we have secure key‑drop options available.
Is there a waiting area at the workshop?
Yes. We have a comfortable waiting area where you can relax while your vehicle is being checked or worked on. There’s wheelchair‑accessible bathroom facilities, tea and coffee, and plenty of reading material, including the local paper. And if you’re lucky, Pete the dog might wander over to keep you company.
How often does my vehicle need a WOF?
Most vehicles in New Zealand currently need a WOF every 12 months, unless they’re older or fall into a different inspection category. From 1 November 2026, the WoF rules are changing, and some vehicles will move to longer inspection cycles.
If you want a clear breakdown of what applies to your vehicle, we’ve put together a simple guide explaining the new changes and time frames.
How long does a WOF take?
A standard WOF inspection usually takes around 30–45 minutes. If repairs are needed, we’ll let you know the time frame. With the November 2026 changes coming, some vehicles will shift to longer inspection cycles — more details are in our blog.
Do you offer WOF inspections and repairs on the same day?
Yes. If your vehicle fails its WOF, we can complete most repairs on the same day depending on parts availability. We’ll explain what’s needed, quote the repairs and keep you updated throughout.
What happens if my WOF expires?
You can’t legally drive a vehicle with an expired WOF (except to get it repaired or inspected). If your WOF has lapsed, bring it in and we’ll get it sorted as quickly as possible.
Do you repair tyre punctures?
Yes. We repair most tyre punctures as long as the damage is in a safe repairable area. If the tyre can’t be safely repaired, we’ll talk you through replacement options.
How do I know if my tyres need replacing?
If your tread is low, the tyre is worn unevenly, or the vehicle feels unstable on the road, it’s time to get them checked. We can measure tread depth, inspect for damage and let you know whether a repair or replacement is the safest option.
How often should I book my car in for servicing?
Most vehicles need servicing every 10,000 km or once a year. If you drive long distances, tow, or use your vehicle for work, more frequent servicing may be recommended.
What should I do if a warning light comes on?
If a warning light appears on your dashboard, it’s best to get it checked as soon as you can. Some lights indicate minor issues, but others can signal engine, brake or electrical problems. We can run a full diagnostic to find the cause.
Do you work on diesel vehicles?
Yes. We service and repair both petrol and diesel vehicles, including utes and light commercial vehicles.
Can you check my brakes if they’re making a noise?
Absolutely. Squeaking, grinding or vibration when braking usually means the pads or rotors need attention. We can inspect the full brake system and let you know what’s required.
How do I book my vehicle in?
You can book your vehicle in by giving us a call on 09 4339759, sending a message, or popping into the workshop. Whether you need WOFs, servicing or repairs, we’ll find a time that suits and get you sorted.
Do you offer fleet servicing for businesses?
Yes. We can look after small business fleets, tradie vehicles and light commercial vehicles. Regular servicing helps keep your vehicles safe and on the road.
Can you check a vehicle before I buy it?
Yes. We offer pre‑purchase inspections to help you make an informed decision before buying a used vehicle.
Do you offer battery testing and replacement?
Yes. If your vehicle is slow to start or showing battery‑related warning lights, we can test the battery and replace it if needed.
